We all need some inspiration and motivation sometimes. So here are some wise words picked from the brain of ancient Chinese philosophers, scholars and writers, Chinese proverbs that will inspire your study in China and inspire you to get the most out of your time here.

"Qiānlǐ zhī xíng, shǐ yú zú xià."

"千里之行,始於足下。"

“The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.”

Travelling and coming to study in China might seem like an epic journey, and you might be both excited and nervous in equal measure of leaving the comfort of your hometown. But it’s something to embrace and everyone has to begin from somewhere. And with the standard of universities and courses in China increasing, it’s worth taking the leap and grasping the opportunity. And here at UniEdu we’re here to help you get there, we’re here to help you apply, take your first steps with us.

"Xué rú nìshuǐ xíngzhōu, bú jìn zé tuì."

"学如逆水行舟,不进则退。"

"Studying is like rowing upstream, no advance is to drop back"

The perfect analogy is used here, studying really is like rowing a boat upstream. It’s all about making progression otherwise as soon as you stop you will regress. So keep on persevering, keep on learning, keep on working, keep on studying, and get better and better, you will reap the rewards.

"Shīfu lǐng jìn mén, xiūxíng zài gèrén."

"师父领进门,修行在个人。"

“Your teacher can open the door but you must enter by yourself.”

At the end of the day, the teacher can teach, inspire and motivate you, but the onus is really on you. Thousands and thousands of students are interested in coming to study in China so if you’re one of the lucky ones to come you need to capitalize on the platform given to you to succeed. So make sure you don’t waste this opportunity. Your life is in your hands, what you get out of it depends on how much you put in.

"bú pà màn, jiù pà tíng."

"不怕慢, 就怕停。"

“Be not afraid of growing slowly; Be afraid only of standing still.”

Another sage piece of wisdom about ‘progression’. Life is truly really all about progression and evolution, and for those lucky enough to have an education, university is usually an important step in one’s life and career trajectory. It doesn’t have to dominate your life but it can set you up and give you a solid foundation for the future. And for so many undergraduates it’s part of the growing up and maturing process. You should definitely not be the same person when you enrol as to when you graduate. You should feel there has been sufficient growth in yourself, that you are much improved and much more knowledgeable and ready to tackle what’s next. Standing still is definitely a no no.

"Xuéxí shì yī zhǒng suíchù kějiàn de bǎozàng."

"学习是一种随处可见的宝藏。"

"Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere"

This is so true, learning is a treasure that will follow us everywhere, especially for those fortunate to do so. It’s also especially true in China where education is held with so much importance, emphasis and value, more so than compared to many other countries. Learning is something we do our whole life and accompanies us throughout. In fact we probably never stop learning. And what a great learning experience studying in China would be, wouldn’t you agree?
